During therapy, I learn how to handle conflicts and difficult feelings better. Now I have much more courage than I used to and get on better with others. Bullying and self-harming aren’t a problem anymore.

Further focuses of my work
Along with diagnostics and the psychiatric and psychotherapeutic treatment of children and adolescents, I also work as a child-psychiatric supervisor (recognized under the VEKIP program at ZPP Heidelberg) and as a child psychiatric reviewer for the Family Court.
Since 2015 I have also been coaching women on the issues of career and family, leadership and self-leadership, vision, and gender issues at work: www.katharina-schmidt-coaching.de
In addition, I prepare method-critical opinions (counter-assessments).
Many international families come to Heidelberg with their children for reasons of research and professional careers.
For the past five years or so, I have attended courses on intercultural skills, focusing on working with international families. This is becoming increasingly important in the context of globalization and greater family mobility. Of course, I also offer treatment in English.
How I founded my own practice for children and adolescents
I discovered my enthusiasm for child and adolescent psychiatry while studying at the University of Yale (USA). My fascination for the wide range of modern treatment options for children and adolescents sparked my wish to become a child psychiatrist and psychotherapist myself.
I spent most of my residency in Switzerland, where I was fortunate to benefit from excellent and highly varied training. It was here that I also gained extensive experience in the field of infant and toddler therapy – one of my key areas. My work as a senior physician with a management function in child psychiatry was ultimately the ideal preparation for my own practice – a long-cherished dream that came true for me in 2013.
Now I look forward every day to my work with my patients, big and small, and their families. Every child is unique and has their own story. The concept of the private practice enables me to focus fully on your child and you as a family and to meet your needs. Every time it is a joy to me to be able to accompany and support you as a family in your individual development.
