Diagnosis

In the diagnosis phase, I try to find out what moves your child and which psychological and possibly physical problems they may have.

  • Detailed medical history

At the start of the diagnostic process, I try to gain an understanding of your child’s developmental history. I speak with you as parents about your concerns and observations as well as your child’s current life situation. Older children and adolescents mostly talk about their problems, questions, or personal issues themselves.

  • Play as an aid to diagnosis

While I speak with you, your child has the opportunity to play or draw in the examination room. Through their play, I get to know your child better. It often helps me to make a diagnosis, too, if I can observe you and your child in a play situation or play with your child myself.

  • Psychological testing process

My assessment of the meeting with you or your child can be complemented by psychological testing processes if required. I conduct all tests and examinations myself in a calm and trusting atmosphere with your child.

  • Physical causes

When arranging the treatment concept and the further support of your child, I always consider their physical condition from a specialist’s perspective and ensure clarification by competent specialist colleagues. The somatic aspects are particularly important if drug therapy is being considered.

  • Duration of the diagnosis

For the diagnosis, I usually require 3 to 5 meetings, however in some cases an initial consultation with you or your child is sufficient for an initial appraisal. The appointments are covered by private health insurance companies.

  • Making the diagnosis

Once I have gained a comprehensive impression of your child’s problems and needs, I will speak with you about my assessment and the results of the psychological tests. We will then consider together what help is appropriate for you and your child and fits into your family life.
